The Flow Conditions in the Epikarst Zone of a Karst Aquifer. Case Study: Suva planina Mt., East Serbia
Branislav Petrović (2022)The epikarst as a part of the karst aquifer represents a complex point of contact and mixing of unconsolidated material from the terrain surface, carbonate rocks altered by “corrosive” water, flora and fauna (and remains of), which is partially saturated with groundwater. Recharge of karst aquifers, usually, occurs via the unsaturated zone which uppermost part could be epikarst zone. Significant amounts of (plant accessible) water, and other solutes and particles, can be stored in this zone for extended periods ...Branislav Petrović. Karst aquifer impact on the formation of surface runoff: case study of the Resava River catchment, Serbia
Marina Mitrašinović, Vesna Ristić Vakanjac, Veljko Marinović, Saša Milanović, Ljiljana Vasić, Dušan Polomčić (2022)The paper compares the flow regimes of the Resava River at the gauging stations of the Manasija Monastery (upper course) and the town of Svilajnac (lower course). The hydrological analysis encompasses a multiyear period of monitoring (1982–2020). The water budget and baseflow index are assessed for the catchment areas monitored by the Svilajnac station (683 km2) and the Manasija Monastery station (358k m2), considering the overall monitoring period and characteristic years. The results indicate that the specific runoff in ...... Quater- nary and Ncogene sediments. A contribution to the understanding of the discharge dynamics and water balance of the karst spring Gornji Dušnik (Suva Planina)
A sufficiently long time-series of daily discharges is needed to assess the discharge dynamics and calculate the water balance equation parameters of a spring (river source). The paper assumes that a catchment is gauged if a time-series of observations of at least 30 years is available, which is a rare case in Serbia. One-year monitoring is often set up to verify the reserves of a water source or spring intended for capture. Monitoring ceases after the final report is ...Aleksandar Tanasković, Vesna Ristić Vakanjac, Dušan Polomčić, Jelena Ratković. Climate change and their imapct on karst groundwater
Milan Đelić, Vesna Ristić Vakanjac (2021)In the last 30 years, there have been progressively more dry and rainy years, a reduced presence or even absence of snow cover, an increase in air temperature, large-scale fires, intensified glacier melting, and the like. Climate change certainly has an effect on all areas of economic activity, but its largest impact is on water resources and existing ecosystems. One of the most important water resources is groundwater, on account of which more than 70% of the population of ...Milan Đelić, Vesna Ristić Vakanjac . Complex geophysical survey on solving the problem of water loss in the karst terrain reservoir
Branislav Sretković, Dejan Vučković (2023)Geophysical surveys in karst terrain are always a specific challenge. Each of them requires a careful consideration of the problem, specific conditions on the ground, the selection of adequate methods applicable in that specific and unique karst area. But they should have one thing in common: a complex approach and looking at the problem from wider to narrower, with a gradual narrowing of the investigation area, increasing the spatial precision and resolution of the obtained data. On the example of ...Branislav Sretković, Dejan Vučković. Back-arc underplating provided crustal accretion affecting topography and sedimentation in the Adria microplate
Paolo Mancinelli, Vittorio Scisciani, Cristina Pauselli, Gérard M. Stampfli, Fabio Speranza, Ivana Vasiljević (2021)Supported by evidence of deep crustal sources for the observed magnetic anomalies in Central Italy and by outcropping gabbros in the Croatian archipelago, we model the observed gravity and magnetic anomalies in the Central Adriatic Sea and surroundings. We suggest that the major magnetic anomalies in the area are related to a wide underplating and propose that this volume represents the first stage of the back-arc Adria continental breakup in Early Permian times. During the Palaeotethys-Adria collision, underplating has ...Paolo Mancinelli, Vittorio Scisciani, Cristina Pauselli, Gérard M. Stampfli, Fabio Speranza, Ivana Vasiljević. AR, CR and ARCR modeling for simulations and analyses of karst groundwater quality parameters
Although an invisible component of the hydrologic cycle, groundwater generally takes precedence over other water resources in the area of drinking water supply. Among groundwater resources, karst aquifers tend to be rich in sufficiently-accessible amounts of high-quality water. During most of the year, this water requires only disinfection prior to delivery to the end user. However, in many cases extreme rainfall and/or sudden snow melt results in transient turbidity, increase in bacterial count and temporary contamination (e.g. increase in ...autocorrelation, cross-correlation, autoregressive model, cross-regressive model, autocross regressive model, nitrates, Banja Spring, Serbia.Vesna Ristić-Vakanjac, Marina Ćokorilo-Ilić, Petar Papić, Dušan Polomčić, Radisav Golubović. Unusually sluggish microemulsion system with water, toluene and a technical branched alkyl polyethoxylate
Marija Ilić, Franz-Hubert Haegel, Vesna Pavelkić, Snežana Zlatanović, Zoran Marković, Aleksandar Cvjetić (2015)Microemulsion systems with water, toluene and nonionic surfactants are interesting for application due to the excellent solvent properties of aromatic hydrocarbons. In this study, the pseudo-binary phase diagram (“fish-diagram”) of such a ternary system was investigated using a branched technical alkyl polyethoxylate. Lutensol ON 50 (i-C10E5) was considered a suitable surfactant. The system with technical branched i-C10E5 exhibits very long, and for compositions near optimum solubilization, i.e., the minimum content of surfactant needed for a bicontinuous microemulsion, extremely long ... Applicability of the risk ranking methodology designed for water reservoirs to tailings storage facilities
The risks associated with operating water reservoirs and tailings storage facilities (TSFs) are different because of their different purposes, methods of construction and operation, and characteristics of the materials impounded and their flow behaviour. Regardless of the differences, these two types of structures are often put in the same category when it comes to risk assessment and the application of relevant methodologies, which may result in unrealistic outcomes. In this paper we investigate whether it is possible to apply ...Dragana Nišić, Dinko Knežević, Aleksandar Cvjetić, Neda Nišić, Vladimir Jovanović. Fuzzy expert analysis of the severity of mining machinery failure
Mining machinery failure is almost an everyday occurrence. Usually the failures bare certain consequences, which require additional financial costs to repair and restore the system to its operational state. The consequences are viewed through negative and damaging effects a failure has on the machine, health and safety of the employees, work environment, and on the environment. The removal of the consequences of the failure requires additional financial investment, which has a negative impact on the company’s business.
