Effects of Energy Production and Consumption on Air Pollution in Serbia
Marija Živković (2019)Energy production and combustion, mostly from unregulated or inefficient fuel combustion, are the single most important anthropogenic sources of air pollutant emissions. Energy sector in Serbia is highly fossil fuel intensive: 87.88% of energy consumed in Serbia is related to fossil fuels, while almost 95% of energy sources are combusted. In 2017. energy related carbon dioxide emission in Serbia is was 47.95 million tones. The main source of carbon dioxide emission was coal, responsible for almost 70% of energy ...Marija Živković. Pleistocene rhinoceros from Bogovina Cave: the first report of Stephanorhinus hundsheimensis Toula, 1902 (Mammalia, Rhinocerotidae) from Serbia
Finds of Pleistocene rhinoceros are rare in Serbia, and only one species (the woolly rhinoceros Coelodonta antiquitatis Blumenbach, 1799) has been reported so far. The current paper presents the dental material of an extinct so-called Hundsheim rhinoceros, Stephanorhinus hundsheimensis Toula, 1902 from Bogovina Cave (East ern Serbia). Both the morphological and metric characteristics of the teeth are consis tent with the attribution to S. hundsheimensis. Unfortunately, the rhinoceros material originated from an uncertain geological context, so there is no ...Predrag Radović, Miloš Radonjić, Emmanuel Billia. Synergy between the mineral deposit exploration and geothermal resources assessment on the example of "Valjevo" boron and lithium deposit in Serbia
Nebojša Atanacković, Vladimir Živanović, Ana Vranješ, Sava Magazinović, Marinko Toljić, Ana Arifović, Branislav Potić (2023)Exploration of mineral deposits involves a collection of vast data sets on geological characteristics of the area. These data can largely contribute to the assessment of the geothermal potential, which can lead to an increase in the share of geothermal resources in the energy mix of the extractive industry and the local community. On the example of the "Valjevo" B-Li deposit, data on structural settings and previous hydrogeological investigations were combined with the results of resource drilling and geophysical ...Nebojša Atanacković, Vladimir Živanović, Ana Vranješ, Sava Magazinović, Marinko Toljić, Ana Arifović, Branislav Potić. The Flow Conditions in the Epikarst Zone of a Karst Aquifer. Case Study: Suva planina Mt., East Serbia
Branislav Petrović (2022)The epikarst as a part of the karst aquifer represents a complex point of contact and mixing of unconsolidated material from the terrain surface, carbonate rocks altered by “corrosive” water, flora and fauna (and remains of), which is partially saturated with groundwater. Recharge of karst aquifers, usually, occurs via the unsaturated zone which uppermost part could be epikarst zone. Significant amounts of (plant accessible) water, and other solutes and particles, can be stored in this zone for extended periods ...Branislav Petrović. The impact of temporal variability of groundwater levels on groundwater vulnerability maps in karst terrains – a case example of the Perućac spring catchment area
Groundwater vulnerability maps represent an essential tool for protecting karst groundwater resources. Vulnerability assessment is usually based on spatial evaluation of various parameters that affect the vulnerability degree and regulate the protection role of the unsaturated zone. Most of these parameters, like soil and geology conditions, are constant and do not change during the year or over several years. In contrast, some parameters, such as the groundwater level, depend on the variability of recharge conditions. By considering the variability ...Vladimir Živanović, Igor Jemcov, Nebojša Atanacković.
Regional rockfall exposure assessment, experience from Serbia
Rockfalls are common in hilly and mountainous areas, especially along roads with engineered slopes and cuts. Such is the case for most of the state and local road routes in Central, Serbia, which was the subject in this case study. A road network of 276 km covering roughly 1700 km2 between the cities of Kraljevo, Čačak and Ivanjica is presented. Assessing of such wide areas needs to be conducted from large to site-specific scale, i.e., using GIS spatial tools ...Miloš Marjanović, Biljana Abolmasov, Uroš Đurić, Jelka Krušić, Snežana Bogdanović. Geothermal potential, chemical characteristic and utilization of groundwater in Serbia
To collect and unify data about all geothermal resources in Serbia, a database was formed. The database allows us to perceive the geothermal resources of Serbia and their potential for utilization. Based on the data available in the geothermal database, the estimated temperatures of reservoirs, heat power, and geothermal energy utilization were calculated. The database contains 293 geothermal records (springs, boreholes) registered at 160 locations, with groundwater temperatures in the range between 20 and 111 °C. The maximum expected ...Geothermal database, Geothermal resources, Geothermal potential, Hydrochemistry, Hierarchical cluster analysis, SerbiaTanja Petrović Pantić, Katarina Atanasković Samolov, Jana Štrbački, Milan Tomić. Possibilities for Reduction of Energy-Related Air Pollution in Serbia - Exploring Energy Scenarios
Fossil fuels and biomass account for almost 93% of the total primary energy supply in Serbia. Meeting the energy needs of consumers implies a transformation of the chemical energy of fuels through combustion processes to obtain heat that can be utilized as such, or further transformed into mechanical or electrical energy. These processes have an undeniable impact on air pollution, even in cases of biofuels or hydrogen combustion. Possibilities for air pollution reduction are identified, both on the supply ...Marija Živković, Boban Pavlović, Dejan Ivezić, Aleksandar Mijatović.
