Effectiveness evaluation is one of the basic components of engineering asset management and maintenance engineering in general. Effectiveness is an overall concept representing a measurement of quality of service level for the analyzed engineering system. This concept contains a series of partial indicators relating to time in operation and time for maintenance activities, as well as functional properties of the system. This article describes the analysis and structuring of partial indicators, as well as the development of a model for their synthesis to the level of effectiveness. Mentioned data are of hybrid character, measured data and experts’ judgments; hence a fuzzy inference model is suggested for their processing and integration into effectiveness. This approach provided the possibility for evaluation of an engineering system in the sense of decision making about remaining capabilities and optimization of life-cycle costs. To demonstrate the potential of the developed model for evaluating effectiveness, this article provides a case study relating to bulldozers. Bulldozers are one of the most common machines operating on surface mines in difficult conditions, under pressure to achieve maximum performance with low stoppages and reduced costs during overall operational life. The case study included two approaches. The first one was based on data collected by experts’ judgments, while the other one was based on the measurement and statistical processing of data. The evaluation of these machines is done by fuzzy-based decision support model for effectiveness evaluation. The example shows the behavior of the bulldozer during the operation and during the maintenance. The strength and applicability of the model were demonstrated by a comparative analysis of the obtained results.
