The use of biological markers in determination of origin and type of organic matter in the Tisza river sediments
Snežana Štrbac, Gordana Gajica, Aleksandra Šajnović, Nebojša Vasić, Ksenija Stojanović, Branimir Jovančićević (2013)The objective of the study was to determine the origin and type of organic matter (OM) of the Tisza recent sediments along the distance of 153 km through the territory of Serbia. For this purpose group organic-geochemical parameters and biomarker compositions were used. All samples contain approximately same amount of OM, which was deposited under uniform, slightly reducing conditions. Based on the distribution of n-alkanes, the origin and type of OM could not be precisely estimated. However, n-alkane patterns ...... contents of the total organic carbon (Corg 0.85–1.66 %) and soluble organic matter (bitumen 0.07–0.14 %) in the surface sediments remained approximately uniform. Based on the predefined quantities, it could not be assessed whether it was singenetic organic matter, or polluting matter of anthropogenic origin ...

Characterization of bituminite in Kimmeridge Clay by confocal laser scanning and atomic force microscopy
Paul C. Hackley, Jolanta Kus, João Graciano Mendonça Filho, Andrew D. Czaja, Angeles G. Borrego, Dragana Životić, Brett J. Valentine, Javin J. Hatcheries (2022)This work investigates bituminite (amorphous sedimentary organic matter) in Upper Jurassic Kimmeridge Clay source rock via confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). These petrographic tools were used to provide better understanding of the nature of bituminite, which has been historically difficult to identify and differentiate from similar organic matter types in source rocks. As part of an International Committee for Coal and Organic Petrology (ICCP) working group, an immature (0.42% vitrinite reflectance), organic-rich (44.1 wt% ...Битуминит, Kонфокална ласерска скенирајућа микроскопија, Mикроскопија атомских сила, Органска петрологија, Термичка зрелостPaul C. Agates of the Lece Volcanic Complex (Serbia): Mineralogical and Geochemical Characteristics
Agate veins and nodules occur in the Lece Volcanic Complex (Oligocene-Miocene) situated in the south of Serbia and occupying an area of 700 km2. This volcanic complex is composed predominantly of andesites, with sporadic occurrences of andesite-basalts, dacites and latites, and features agate formations that have been very little investigated. This study focuses on five selected agate occurrences within the Lece Volcanic Complex, employing optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction analysis, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry ...Zoran Miladinović, Vladimir Simić, Nenad Nikolić, Nataša Jović Orsini, Milena Rosić. Composition of organic matter and thermal maturity of Mesozoic and Cenozoic sedimentary rocks in East Herzegovina (External Dinarides, Bosnia and Herzegovina)
This paper presents the first data on the organic matter and thermal maturity of Mesozoic and Cenozoic sedimentary rocks in the East Herzegovina region of the External Dinarides. Representative, organic-rich samples from outcropping sedimentary rocks of different ages in the area (Triassic to Neogene) were selected and analysed. The organic matter was studied by Rock-Eval pyrolysis and under the microscope in reflected non-polarized light and incident blue light. The results obtained show the presence of different types of organic ...... in organic matter. For the thermal maturation study, the preferred organic matter type was coaly, since it is more reliable for vitrinite reectance meas- urements. Whenever possible, roadcut sites were selected for sampling, in order to minimize the eect of weathering on the organic matter (Petsch ...

Predeanu, S. Pusz, J. Ribeiro, S. Rodrigues, A.K. Singh, I. Suárez-Ruiz, I. Sýkorová, N.J. Wagner, D. Životić (2020)Self-heating of coal waste is a major problem in the leading coal-producing and consuming countries, independent of the recent or past coal exploitation history. The phenomenon of self-heating is dependent on many factors such as the properties of organic matter (maceral composition and rank), moisture and pyrite content, climate effects, and storage conditions (shape of the dump or compaction of the coal waste). Once deposited, coal waste undergoes oxidation, which can lead to self- heating with the overall temperatures ...M. Misz-Kennan, J. Kus, D. Flores, C. Avila, Z. Büçkün, N. Choudhury, K. Phase relations and physical indicators of municipal waste from old landfills in Serbia
Due to certain similarities of municipal waste and soil, usually for the determination of basic parameters of physical state, laboratory and field tests which are common in geotechnical investigations are used.
