An Experimental Investigation of the Environmental Risk of a Metallurgical Waste Deposit
Jasmina Dedić , Jelena Djokic , Jovana Galjak, Gordana Milentijević, Dragan Lazarevic, Živče Šarkočević, Milena Lekić (2022)The aim of this study is to investigate the environmental risk of long-term metallurgical waste disposal. The investigated site was used for the open storage of lead and zinc waste materials originating from a lead smelter and refinery. Even after remediation was performed, the soil in the close vicinity of the metallurgical waste deposit was heavily loaded with heavy metals and arsenic. The pollutants were bound in various compounds in the form of sulfides, oxides, and chlorides, as well ...Jasmina Dedić , Jelena Djokic , Jovana Galjak, Gordana Milentijević, Dragan Lazarevic, Živče Šarkočević, Milena Lekić. Numerical Modeling and Simulation of the Effectiveness of Groundwater Source Protection Management Plans: Riverbank Filtration Case Study in Serbia
The paper describes the establishment and testing of an algorithm for developing sustainable management plans associated with groundwater source protection against potential pollutants and discusses the effectiveness of individual systems. The applied methodology pertains to groundwater resource management, particularly those cases that involve riverbank filtration. Namely, groundwater (numerical) modeling is employed to examine the groundwater regime and balance, as well as to create protection systems and illustrate their effectiveness. Particle tracking analysis is used to study pollutants’ travel and ...Dušan Polomčić, Dragoljub Bajić, Bojan Hajdin, Dragan Pamučar.
‘Blue-’ and ‘Brown-speckled’ pottery from Qalhât, the Sultanate of Oman (13–16th centuries): Comparison with traditional Omani 19–20 century productions
Representative ‘Blue speckled’ (13–16th centuries) and ‘Brown speckled’ (13–21st century) wares recovered from the excavations in Qalhât or collected around Bahlâ city (Sultanate of Oman) were characterized by XRPD, SEM-EDS, Raman/optical microspectroscopy, and thermal expansion. Minerals present in the body (quartz, augite and albite as major phases, calcite, dolomite, rutile, anatase, phosphate, hematite and magnetite as minor phases) were identified by XRPD and/or Raman spectroscopy. SEM-EDXS microanalysis was performed on the glazes in order to compare their composition, especially ...Liliana Gianni, Hélène Renel, Aleksandar Kremenović, Philippe Colomban. Hydrochemical indicators of groundwater flow in the area of “Čukaru Peki” Cu-Au underground mine in eastern Serbia
The physical and chemical properties of groundwater, together with the groundwater levels regime and rock hydraulic properties, are often used to understand and conceptualize the hydrogeological system. Prediction of the influence of mining works on groundwater, and vice versa, is a challenge due to significantly altered groundwater flow patterns in the raw materials exploitation areas in relation to natural conditions. Therefore, multiple parameters are assessed and monitored before and during exploitation to properly characterize and quantify the system for ...Nebojša Atanacković, Vladimir Živanović, Jana Štrbački, Veselin Dragišić, Ivana Cvejić. Connections between the Levant and the Balkans in the late Middle Pleistocene: Archaeological findings from Velika and Mala Balanica Caves (Serbia)

Rink, Senka Plavšić, Mirjana Roksandić (2022)Major changes in the technological, economic, and social behavior of Middle Pleistocene hominins occurred at the onset of the Middle Paleolithic, 400e200 ka. However, until recently it was not possible to establish when, where, and how certain forms of Middle Paleolithic behavior appeared and spread into Southeastern Europe, mainly owing to gaps in the Paleolithic record. Here we report new results of dating, material culture, and the archaeological context of finds from the Balanica Cave Complex in Sicevo (Serbia). ...Dušan Mihailović, Steven L. Upper Miocene depositional environments of the Kikinda-Mokrin High (Serbia)
Saša Ivanišević, Dejan Radivojević (2018)Exploration for oil and gas in mature areas, such as the Pannonian Basin, can benefit from reexamination of old data using more advanced modern workflows that focus on the temporal and spatial aspects of sediment deposition. Specifically, we apply a new environment of deposition model that interprets the Upper Miocene- Pliocene sediments as being deposited in a rapidly filling basin characterized by quick shelf edge progradation from the northwest toward the southeast. Reconstruction of this shelf edge trajectory reveals ...Saša Ivanišević, Dejan Radivojević.
